Located just outside Exeter is a small gem of a farm established organically in 1998 by two disciples of all that is seasonal, local and organic. One hundred and six acres of deep red soil yields the vegetables and herbs needed for 300 box scheme customers as well as beef from a small Dexter herd and free range organic turkeys. Rod and Ben who run this farm first met as students of agriculture and after going their separate ways after college were reunited by their shared conviction in the good of organic farming. Why not benefit from their ten years of toil and experience and let them pre-empt any struggles you might otherwise encounter in your future plans for a vegetable patch or smallholding?

Ready, Steady, GROW!
Organic fruit and vegetable growing – getting started

Would love to enjoy home grown fruit and vegetables but don’t know where to begin? Spend the day at Bickham farm laying the groundwork for the new gardening you of 2008. Now is the time to plan so we will look at what to grow, where to grow it and the gear to get you going. Starting with the seed we will look at which crops to sow and which to plant out as seedlings covering the basics of plant raising and direct sowing. Look round the crops at the farm to see the plan put to action and enjoy an organic lunch of heart-warming soup made from the fruits of our labours.
