The Soil Association is a charity, and almost all its income is contributed by individual members and supporters and institutions such as charitable trusts and statutory bodies. We are most grateful to all those who have so generously contributed over the years.
There is increasing recognition, amongst both funding bodies and the public, that sustainable agriculture delivers real public benefits in terms of the protection of wildlife, the well-being of animals, human health, education and the environment.
Lottery and statutory sources have helped establish and develop major programmes such as our local food activities and educational outreach. At the same time, specific grants have enabled us to run regional centres in Cornwall and Yorkshire.
Charitable trusts and foundations have made critically important contributions to our work in the areas of education, conservation, animal welfare, research, policy, publications and management, often playing an enabling role before new projects can attract larger funding.
Companies are also increasingly welcoming of our work, providing generous support (often in kind or with time) during the year. Our national conference in 2006 was a triumph of corporate social responsibility, with 11 companies led by Thames Water, Sainsbury's, Triodos Bank and Yeo Valley Organic sponsoring assisted places for small-scale farmers and growers.
Finally, we would like to pay tribute to the extraordinary generosity of an ever-growing number of individuals who have made donations. Without their support the organic movement would not be where it is today.
